The Medtronic MiniMed 780G system represents a massive leap forward from the notoriously difficult 670G and 770G systems. The biggest improvements are the elimination of required fingerstick calibrations (via the Guardian 4 sensor) and a much more aggressive algorithm that can deliver auto-correction boluses up to every 5 minutes.
SmartGuard Technology
The algorithm requires you to program an Active Insulin Time (AIT) of 2.0 to 8.0 hours. It adjusts basal delivery and can deliver auto-correction boluses up to every 5 minutes if it predicts glucose will be above the target.
- Adjustable Target: Users can select a target of 100, 110, or 120 mg/dL. (100 mg/dL is currently the lowest target available on any commercial AID system).
- Auto-Correction: Yes, up to every 5 minutes (much more frequent than Tandem's max of 1/hr).
