Dexcom G6 Review & Specs

The gold standard for AID integration, though slowly being replaced by the G7.

While the Dexcom G7 is the newer model, the Dexcom G6 remains incredibly relevant. Because regulatory approval for AID systems takes time, the G6 is still the most widely integrated sensor for closed-loop pump systems, including Omnipod 5, Tandem t:slim X2, and the iLet Bionic Pancreas.

Hardware Design

Unlike the all-in-one G7, the G6 consists of two pieces:

  • Sensor wire and adhesive: Changed every 10 days.
  • Transmitter: A small grey chip that snaps into the sensor pod. It lasts for 90 days and must be moved from old sensors to new ones.
